Percent Complete

A field progress KPI. Distinct from earned-value SPI on the Professional hub—this page is simple quantity or physical % complete.

% complete = earned/physical progress ÷ planned quantity × 100.

Tip: Keep “Progress Achieved” and “Planned Quantity” on the same basis (period, units, and population) before calculating Percent Complete.

Cluster: Construction hub · SPI · CPI · Manufacturing hub · Percentage guide

Percent complete measures how much of the planned scope is done using earned or physical progress units.

Enter progress achieved and total planned quantity for the same activity or WBS.

Understanding Percent Complete

How we calculate. % complete = earned/physical progress ÷ planned quantity × 100. The form uses the same arithmetic as the worked examples on this page. See our methodology and accuracy policy.

Real-world scenario: A typical Percent Complete case uses progress achieved 7500 and planned quantity 10000. Enter the same figures below to reproduce the worked path.

What is Percent Complete?

A field progress KPI. Distinct from earned-value SPI on the Professional hub—this page is simple quantity or physical % complete.

  • Same UOM for progress and planned
  • Freeze the planned quantity
  • Cross-link SPI/CPI for EV analytics

The Formula

Percent Complete
Percent complete = (Progress achieved ÷ Planned quantity) × 100

Worked Example

Scenario: Progress 7,500 LF; planned 10,000 LF.
Step 1: 7500 ÷ 10000 = 0.75
Step 2: × 100 = 75%
Answer: Percent complete is 75%.

Common Use Cases

  • Daily reports: activity progress
  • Owner updates: physical % done
  • Pay apps: quantity-based complete

Pro Tips

  • Don’t mix cost % and physical %
  • Watch scope changes
  • See Professional SPI for EV

Limitations: Percent Complete results are educational construction planning aids—not engineering, safety, legal, or cost-estimating advice. Confirm definitions with your project controls, safety, and contract documents. For earned-value SPI/CPI see the Professional hub.

FAQ
