How Discount Percent Works

A discount percent tells you what share of the list price is removed before checkout. If a $80 item is 25% off, you save $20 and pay $60.

Core formula

Sale price = list price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)
Amount saved = list price × (discount ÷ 100)

Mental math check

10% off is easy (move the decimal). For 25% off, halve the price twice. Your calculator result should match within a cent after rounding.

When to use which tool

Use the discount calculator when you have list price and percent off. Use discount rate when you compare markdown policies across SKUs.
